Drop Detection Dashboard Follow
This article acts as a walkthrough for the EnOcean demo Drop Detection dashboard. Included is an explanation of the scenario and how to use the provided demo sensors in the context of this dashboard.
Scenario Overview
This scenario is used to show a possible use case for MobiusFlow in the context of Drop Detection or any other situation in which monitoring of vibrations or acceleration is required.
In this scenario, vibrations are monitored to detect a violent drop or bump. Such an event could be significant in many situations, notably product certification/quality control in industrial applications. If vibrations on any axes above a threshold are detected, the system will log the event and notify the relevant parties. If the vibrations sensor was mounted to a high precision product for example, such an incident could mean the difference between the product succeeding or failing.
In a real-world situation, a dedicated vibration sensor/accelerometer would be used.
Functionality
On navigating to the Drop Detection dashboard the following pane is presented. Ensure the 'Clear' button is clicked in the notifications window to ensure the dashboard is reset.
Triggering the Drop
As the vibrations are detected from the provided demo multi-sensor, this sensor is used to trigger the drop. Although physically dropping this sensor into the floor would allow the drop to be detected, this is not recommended due to the risk of damaging the sensor. Instead, shaking the sensor violently should allow the simulated drop to be detected. This is shown in the screenshot below.
It can be seen in the screenshot above, the detected vibrations reached beyond acceptable limits and therefore an event considered to be a drop was detected. This is notified in red to the user. It should also be noted that this event could be automatically logged on a cloud database. Natively, MobiusFlow is compatible with many popular cloud database systems notably:
- IBM Bluemix
- Google IoT Core
- Microsoft Azure IoT Hub
- Microsoft Azure IoT Central
More standards are continually added to Mobius flow as these become popular. Furthermore, MobiusFlow is able to interact with custom cloud systems if this is so desired.
